New Baby Miniature Filly Born This Morning!

This morning Joe and I awoke to a beautiful, new miniature baby filly...she doesn't have a name yet (my guess is that Tommy and Trudy the owners of T.n.T Stables Miniature Horse Ranch will decide to give her a flower name since her mother's name is Rose and her sister's name is Daisy), but she is adorable! Here are some pictures I took of her and her mother:

My husband, Joe, giving the sweet little girl some love on her very first day in this curious world!

Awww...she loves her mama! :-D

Me petting the lovable little girl! She is going to be a wonderful people horse; I can tell already...and she is so soft!

Here is a video of Rose with her baby girl filly born last year in February...sweet little "Daisy" now named "Dolly" from her new owners:

Apple Cider Vinegar Is Saving My Cat's Life!

Update: Our sweet boy, Buster, is sick. Buster is about ten years old and has been in my family since he was a young cat; he has lived with my grandparents and even my great-grandparents and has been over-weight most of his life. Joe and I have had Buster a little over three years and since living with us he has lost a little weight and now has a nice clean, shiny coat. Recently, he hasn't been able to urinate (although, at first we thought the problem was constipation); he growls and hisses at himself; the poor boy hasn't been feeling well. With Joe and I always turning to "natural health" remedies for ourselves, we do the same for our cats.

We have this wonderful book, called "The New Natural Cat: A Complete Guide for Finicky Owners" by Anitra Frazier that we turn to for advice (pictured above is our affiliate link of the latest edition of this book; it details the latest advances in holistic care for cats, updated statistics, new diet guidelines, and health care recommendations, including the latest on vaccines, updated resources section with suggestions for finding a holistic veterinarian and advice on how to deal with conventional veterinarians). First thinking that the problem was constipation, Joe and I went to Akins Natural Foods Market right down the street (which is where I work part-time) and we picked up some all-natural canned cat food with chicken, wheatgerm, and other healthy ingredients and we picked up some Yerba Prima Psyllium Husk Powder and Oat Bran (which our natural cat book advised to use). When we got home, we combined the three ingredients (about half of a cup of canned cat food with 1/8 tsp. psyllium husk and 1/8 tsp. oat bran) and then added some finely chopped organic carrots, golden flax seeds, and a tad bit of fresh garlic; along with a teaspoon of probiotic kefir (friendly bacteria should help get things moving)! Since Buster loves to eat dried catnip from our catnip plant, we have been feeding it to him as a treat with dried nettle leaf mixed in which is "good for digestion and rich in minerals". (Frazier, 257) I have also made a cold infusion tea with catnip and nettle and Buster lapped it up a little.

However, last night Buster was in agonizing pain and was constantly licking his bottom and bladder; so we took him to the emergency veterinarian and discovered that he had formed crystals in his urethra which was blocking the flow of his urine, causing his bladder to swell and therefore pain. The vet said that he needed surgery and needed to be hospitalized for three days; they gave us a long list of treatments that we felt were over-priced and invasive that would cost us around $1100...instead we wanted to take a more natural approach in our own home (a very comfortable environment for Buster)...and we ended up spending just a few dollars to cure Buster! So we decided since now we know that Buster may have a constipation problem and that the main issue is that he is having difficulty urinating, that we want to do our own research into natural remedies that can help ease his pain and get him urinating again.

We discovered this entire website that talks about this urinary problem common in older male cats that have been neutered (which is Buster's category) and a "Miracle Cure": APPLE CIDER VINEGAR!

With 44 kitty success stories with this natural treatment we think Buster is number 45! After returning from the vet, in tears and afraid but still determined to help our sweet friend we discovered this remedy and fortunately we had a really good quality Apple Cider Vinegar with the "mother culture" in our kitchen cabinet. It can be purchased by clicking on the image above (affiliate link).

Joe and I gave Buster the Apple Cider Vinegar diluted with a little water in a dropper by mouth and added it to his natural spring drinking water; we also added some crushed vitamin C to his all-natural chicken and wheatgerm dinner along with Slippery Elm (that is soothing for inflammation), Echinacea (which is antiseptic), and Burdock Root (soothing to stomach and intestines and high in vitamin C). We stayed up late last night with him and locked him in the bathroom so he could get some rest and privacy from the other cats...we also laid down plenty of towels and paper bags in case he urinated anywhere (which we didn't care where he urinated, we just want our sweet boy to pee)! Joe and I caught some sleep and by morning Buster looked much better! He had a big wet spot on his right side and it smelled like pee! :-D He then ate plenty of healthy food and drank lots of water (we haven't seen him drink this much in days)! He looks interested in playing with the other kitties and hasn't complained one bit! Joe and I have been giving him lots of love and he is currently taking a nice nap; we are going to continue his treatment...we are so relieved to see him looking back to his old self!

The Recipe for Love

The Recipe for Love:

This is a pop art influenced canister featuring a loving housewife and her very happy husband. The woman is shown with a grocery bag full of all the ingredients she needs for "the recipe for love", as many of the food items dance around the gleeful couple.

You can display this delightful piece as a candle votive, pen or pencil holder, trinket container, or as a stunning work of art. This also makes a great gift for holding baked goods, candies, soaps, bath salts, teas, etc. Also in my shop are some beautiful satin pouches that fit perfectly in this canister and can contain candies, cookies, soap, teas, etc.

In these pictures, the shine on the canister is from the glossy Mod Podge finish. I applied two coats of Mod Podge to this canister so the images are protected, yet you can still feel the fun texture of the freckles!

The eco-friendly recycled materials used in this item are: a tin can, magazine clippings, and recycled paper. This piece measures 4 1/2 inches tall and 3 inches wide. The interior of this tin is painted a gorgeous hunter green. Canisters like this one were opened with a special can opener that cuts with a very smooth edge, so you can touch the top of the canister and be completely safe!

Free Marketing for Your Etsy Business at Your Local Library!

I found this great free marketing tip in an Etsy forum titled: "10 Ways to Advertise for Free"; this particular tip was on a thread posted by Berry Blue Creations:

“One of my favorite forms of free advertising, besides those previously mentioned is to talk to the people in charge of exhibits at your Local Library. If you can get a week or two to fill a display case.. you'll be amazed at the response you get.” – Berry Blue Creations

I love this novel idea...and I fancy the thought of locals oohing and aahing over my one-of-a-kind creations at a very comfortable and popular place: the library! I have noticed art work in display cases at my local library and normally there is a plaque or something that features the information of the artist...also, I have noticed library books on the topic being displayed along with the art. For example here are two displays I have seen at my local libraries recently: books featured on "how to make mosaics" along with an artist's provided mosaic art...and the other was a professional camera with nice photography provided by the artist and books displayed on "how to become a great photographer". So I suppose a very fitting theme for my upcycled decopuage canisters would be featuring books about "how to create art from recycled items" or "how to decoupage".

Also, another great FREE marketing tip that I have taken advantage of is the computers and printers at my local library. I am assuming that the policies of this varies among libraries, but I am able to print off five pages in black and white for free. So when money is tight and you would like to print some promotional fliers for your Etsy business, create a document of mini fliers and print them off in black and white for free at your library. Post them in appropriate and noticeable places with bulletin boards such as: your favorite coffee shop or café...at the post office, community center, and even the library!

Tickled Twenty-Two Year Old Twins!

Today is Andrea's and my birthday and we turned twenty-two! We had a delicious build-your-own burrito lunch with our grandmother at Andrea's charming home. We also opened gifts, "girl-talked", and played our favorite board game: Scrabble...at the end of the game, we each created a story with all of our scrabble words which was hilarious and so much fun!

My kitty, Nozomi, in a Scrabble box:

I also have some photos of a hand-painted, decoupage canister (titled "Girls Night In") that I made Andrea a couple of years ago for her birthday and a comment from her about how much she adores it!

"I love this canister that Jessy made me for our 20th birthday a couple of years ago. It has always reminded me of us and how funny, honest, and close we are with each other. This is one of her first creations (with the larger freckle dots); however, her creative eye is most certainly prominent in this early art piece as in all her creations. I'm looking forward to spending our upcoming birthday with each other again this year (on April 2nd), and hope to soon be throwing Jessy a little art party at my place to feature some of her latest art creations. :-) Love you Jessy; Happy Birthday." - Andy
